THE ACADEMY HAS ANNOUNCED AN OSCAR CAMPAIGN RULE CHANGE

After the surprising disqualification of song nominee Bruce Broughton earlier this year, the Academy has decided to make a change in the rules. Branch members are now not only prohibited from contacting other members to promote their song in any way, but they can no longer attend live performances of any of the nominated songs. This decision was spurred due to the feeling that Bruce abused his position as academy governor by appealing directly to members during the nominating process of his song “Alone Yet Not Alone.” The Academy feels that these updated rules enforce “fair and equitable” campaigns rather than specifically condemning any technical rule violations.

The 87th Academy awards will take place on the 22nd of February at the Dolby Theater. Nominations will be announced on January 15th. For more information click here
